Deats with Deanna: How to Recover From an Eating Disorder with Johanna Kandel

I sat down with Johanna Kandel, the founder, and CEO of the National Alliance for Eating Disorders and the author of Life Beyond Your Eating Disorder (Harlequin). We had a fun Q&A where we discussed everything from how to get help with your eating disorder to the entrepreneurial side of her life.

In this episode you’ll hear:

  • Where to get help even if you don’t have the means
  • Why Johanna started
  • How to achieve recovery
  • How Johanna started the alliance
  • Details on passing the registered dietitian exam
  • How to get internship preceptors

Johanna founded The Alliance after a decade-long battle with various eating disorders. Since founding The Alliance in October 2000, Johanna has brought information and awareness about eating disorders to hundreds of thousands of individuals nationally and internationally.

In addition, she facilitates weekly support groups, mentors individuals with eating disorders and their families through their treatment and recovery, and helps thousands of people to gain information and find the help they need. As a passionate advocate for mental health and eating disorders legislation, Johanna has spent a lot of time meeting with numerous members of Congress and was part of the first-ever Eating Disorder Roundtable at the White House.
