We just got back from an incredible 9-day trip to Greece where we explored Santorini, Athens, and Paros. This is literally the trip I dreamed about experiencing (and eating my way through) since seeing the The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants back in high school.
You might be wondering, “How the heck can Deanna do this, she’s running a business.” I regularly get asked how I’m able to run a business, work, and travel. So, how do I do it? Keep reading.
How I prepped for my travel
- I strategically organized time blocks so that I’m able to unplug.
- I batch-created content, blogs (hi, thanks for reading!), and podcast episodes for the time I’m away.
- I leaned on auto post, and the creatives I have delegated content creation to.
- I trust the work I have done to be able to step away successfully.
Using these strategies helped me feel confident in taking time away so that I didn’t have to worry every second of my vacation. Many entrepreneurs struggle to fully step away from their business when they take time off, believe me, I’ve been there, but this vacation I stood by my commitment to unplug only checking in occasionally so that I could be present with Zack and Harper.
Perks of running your own business from a travel perspective
You probably started your business to be your own boss. Or you want to start it so you can control your calendar, so you can ditch that 9-5 mindset and work when you want to.
While I was in Greece, I was able to take time off, while periodically checking in from my phone for less than an hour a day, all from the side of the pool. Tell me what sounds better than that?
The beauty of an online business is that you can run it from anywhere in the world! You started your business to have opportunities that you could have never dreamed of in the corporate world. Book that two-month trip and work from anywhere in the world, at the tip of your fingers.
Importance of time off as an entrepreneur
Online Entrepreneur Academy starts in less than two weeks which means July is full of discovery calls to build the next cohort of incredible entrepreneurs. Even with this heavy month ahead, I knew that taking time off would positively impact my prep so that I could recharge and spend quality time with my family.
This time off was an inspiring reminder that I didn’t leave my 9-5 to work 24/7 and that I am allowed to enjoy the work-life balance that I have worked extremely hard for without feeling guilty. Please let this be a reminder to you that you too are deserving of time off and that it is a great way to come back with a fresh mind.
I came back from travel with a clear mind (and a fresh tan), ready to go. As a mom, it’s so important to me that Harper grows up knowing she can have it all, too.
This life is closer than you think! A year from now you could be planning your European vacation knowing that you have solid monthly recurring revenue in place and can work from anywhere.
